Mission
It is the mission of the Coaching Committee to raise the level of performance of DRUG FREE U.S. competitors through selection of coaching staff for teamsparticipating in international events, recruiting participants for those events in a manner consistent with directives of the National Governing Body, and dissemination of information to all lifters and coaches on preparation for competition, and managing teams before and during competition.
Comments
It is hoped that the maximum number of USA Powerlifting members will be offered, and accept the opportunity to participate in international competition. The members of the Coaching Committee believe that most lifters have the potential to perform at a level which would be competitive internationally. The individuals who do compete in such competitions gain knowledge and experience they may then share with others on returning home, making all U.S. lifters better. We hope to assist individual lifters and coaches in fine tuning training techniques and contest preparation strategies. This seems to be best done by encouraging a sense of community between athletes and coaches so that information can be shared.
National Teams
Selection for membership on National Teams, and for other international competition is accomplished in accordance with rules defined by the National Governing Body. It is noted most members of 1999 National Teams were not members of a previous National Team, but were first time international competitors. They earned their team positions competitively; they must have won or placed well at one of our National Championships. However, selection of alternates at the last minute is at the discretion of the specific team coaching staff. The primary criteria are that they be willing to travel on short notice and be in shape to compete.
Coaching Accreditation
USA Powerlifting is now offering a Coaching Certification program available to all USA Powerlifting members. We offer 3 levels of Coaching Certifications: Club Coach, Senior National Coach, and Senior International Coach. This should cover coaches from beginning to international levels. We will strive to provide coaching candidates with information and technical expertise to allow them to coach at any level.

Sponsorship
Since our acceptance into the I.P.F. in 1997, we have sought sponsors for the National Teams. However, it has been up to individuals to seek sponsorship for their team(s). What sponsors give to the teams varies; it may equipment, t-shirts, or money for uniforms or other costs. In return, they get their names on the team uniforms and the opportunity to refer to themselves as an "official sponsor of the Bench World Team" (or whichever team it happens to be). It would be great if all teams were sponsored equally. That isn't the case right now. Please help us with this by suggesting sponsors or sources of support for our lifters. Deductions made by sponsors are tax deductible.
Recruit New Participants
In order for our sport to grow, we need more people involved, as lifters, referees, promoters, sponsors, and coaches. At every level of competition, Drug Free lifting in the U.S. will benefit from more depth.
