Arnold Sports Festival Thank Yous
Posted Monday, March 9, 2009 @ 6:33 PM CMTs
Back home in Anchorage and would like to thank some of the people who made the USAPL/IPF events at the Arnold Sports Festival great.
First, I would like to say how honored we are to be a part of the Festival and we are very grateful to Mr. Jim Lorimer and Governor Schwarzenegger for giving us this opportunity and letting us run with it. We hope we presented a quality show that you both enjoyed and we proud of. They are ably supported (and we were too) by the ladies in the office, Donna Reeder, Lucy Pinney, Stephanie Lorenz, and Suzanne Irwin. Thank you all for all of the hard work you did on our behalf.
No effort of this scale would be possible the efforts of many, many people. While it is difficult to single out any one person as being instrumental in the effort to stage this event, Greg Page clearly rose above and beyond what was expected of him, working logistics, securing equipment, recruiting personnel, directing staff, getting food and water for the staff, and on top of all that, lifting in this meet. Greg represents all that is good in USAPL.
He was assisted by Stephanie Dzurnak and Bernie Tatulinski, who were everywhere. From driving the equipment truck to handing out t-shirts, these two ladies went non-stop from Wednesday, and they are still working.
We had a number of spotters and loaders, equipment movers, etc. They were (apologies if I forget someone):
Thomas Rodrigues
Dan Rusziwecz
Justin Mac
Meriele Micheal
Emanuel Butler
Mike Cantu
Travis Moore
Cardyl Trianfante
Kevin Clark
Jason Fleenor
Steve Rohr
Taylor Sams
Eric Curry
Rick El' Aimin
Andrew Williams
Dave Laugermill
Brandon & Jessica Boyce
Gary Bess
Clay Breedlove --- helped with the booth
Tomas ( do not know his last name )
Our Technical Secretary was Robert Keller. He was assisted by (and, again apologies if I have forgotten someone):
Jack Marcus
Bill Sindelar
Bill Clayton
Berndt Ramartzig (Germany)
Detlev Albrings (Germany)
Arkadiuz Znojek (Poland)
Angela Simons
Eliot Feldman
Clair and Billy Keel
Rob Grisham
Jeff Butt
Buddy Duke
Johnny Graham
There were three IPF officials who travelled from overseas to work, and we did make them work. They loaded plates, hauled equipment, put up banners, cleaned the platform. Well, you get the idea. They were:
Detlev Albrings, IPF President
Emanuel Schieber, IPF General Secretary
Susumu Yoshida, President, Asia Powerlifting Federation
The registration of athletes was ably handled by Donna Bryant, Johnny Graham and the ladies from the Phantom Corps at Ft. Hood, Texas.
Joe and Cathy Marksteiner ran the computer scoring again this year and it is safe to say that there is NO BETTER powerlifting scoring system in the world. This year's addition by Joe was a calculator that figured what lifts were necessary for placing in a Wilks scored meet. If you want to move into first place, the program tells you what you have to lift to do it. Amazing.
Our announcers for the weekend rocked the house: Niko Hulslander, Rick Fowler, Lance Slaughter and Robert Keller.
Martha Thomas and Lance Slaughter ran the USAPL booth.
We are all greatful for the support of our sponsors. Without them a meet of this scope and cost would not be possible:
Premera Health, makers of Con-Cret creatine and Amino Active
NutraCea, makers of rice-based nutritional products for athletes
Eleiko Sport, providers of our bars and discs and significant financial
support
Quest Nutrition
GNC Pro Performance
Titan Support Systems
Finally, I would like to thank the members of the Arnold Sports Festival Planning Committee: Priscilla Ribic, Brad Gillingham, Rick Fowler, Sherman Ledford, Lance Slaughter, Geoff Plante. These folks worked all year to make this event a success.
Thank you all for all of the efforts you put forth for USA Powerlifting and the dedication and care you give our athletes.
Until next year, health, happiness, and white lights,
LJM
