"What can I wear! And what are the commands!"
by Steve Mann

Ok there are so many organizations that sound so much a like. And then there is the internet that can pass bad information to millions of people. So I wanted to give a quick and easy guide to the USAPL equipment and command rules.

Equipment:

  • No double/triple ply equipment allowed, this includes squat briefs
  • No demin equipment allowed
  • No Bench Shirts or Squat suits with Velcro
  • All Shirts must have a closed backs
  • All Shirts including non-supportive shirts, should have sleeves
  • Belts should not have padding
  • Belts shouldn't be wider then 10 CM at any point
  • You can't lift in boxers, must be briefs.
  • You must wear a shirt in the Bench and the Squat.
  • You must wear shoes that have a sole, socks only not allowed
  • You must wear a singlet, unless your are in a HS only contest
  • Lifting straps are not allowed
Lifting Commands

  • Squat Commands "Squat" and "Rack"
  • "Replace" is a third call for lifters who have elapsed a time with not being in a proper position to get the "Squat" command. Example: The bar is to low on the lifters back. Another example: The lifters knees were not locked, so the lifter was again not in position to get the "Squat" command.
  • Bench Press Commands "Start" and "Rack"
  • Deadlift Command "Down"
Ok there is the quick run down of the most confused rules. There are more, but these are the ones that most new USAPL lifters get confused with.

I hope this helps!
