USAPL Approved Logos
The following logos are approved sponsors for USAPL. In the past there have been issues with paid sponsors having their logos disallowed. All meet directors and referees should be aware of this list.
We will be keeping a list of approved sponsors on the USAPL website and will also provide this list in meet director packages. It is the responsibility of meet directors and referees to know this list and to not disallow the logo of a sponsor. These sponsors pay fees to have their logos displayed and we need to ensure their logos are not disallowed.
International Powerlifting Federation - Technical News
by Robert Keller
Dear colleagues:
I hope and trust all is well. In this edition of Powerlines #19, I will address several issues of importance, sent to me by John Stephenson, chairperson of the IPF Technical Committee for all athletes, coaches, referees, and administrators to review. John provides some insightful and important information, to prepare each you for your next championship either on the local, state, national or international platform.
Please take some time to review this information.
New Powerlifting Gear - (Finland)
Metal Shop has submitted two suits and wraps, which have met with the Committees approval and has been added to the approved list of equipment:
1) New Squatter 2
2) New Squatter v - type 2
3) Triple Black Line Wraps
Author's comment: Please see the updated approved equipment list located here: http://www.powerlifting-ipf.com/IPF%20Approved%20List.htm
Crain equipment is now legal to be used in all USAPL/IPF championships. Mr. Crain has paid the required licensing fees to the IPF.
PALLINI (France)
The Technical Committee welcomes the Pallini Manufacturing Company (Bars, Discs, Bench and Stands) to the list of approved equipment. It is all of an extremely high standard and will be used at the "Women's Open Worlds" in Cahors, France in June 2- 6 2004.
Author's comment: I look forward to seeing this equipment in use at the 2004 IPF Women's World Powerlifting Championships
Logos
The rule in respect of Logos worn by lifters will be discussed by the Executive Committee at their first full meeting of the year to be held in conjunction with the World Open Women's Competition during June. The discussion, shall relate to the size of some manufacturers "Emblems" on non -supportive suits and T-Shirts, which may not need to be licensed or masked up with tape. Up until such time that a decision has been made, referees are advised to see that logos not on the approved list are covered.
Nominations (Referees)
The Technical Committee are pleased to see that Championships Secretary Gaston Parage has made space on the Nomination's Form for the insertion of weight categories in which nominated referees are available for. This will help the Technical Committee immensely in pre-selection of referees, which will be announced at the Technical Meeting at all international and world level championships.
2003 Men's Open(T.V. Coverage)
The much-awaited screening of highlights from the 2003 Men's Open took place on Friday, February 13, 2004, on Euro Sport. Generally, Euro Sport portrayed our sport in "good light". The commentary was accurate, and mention was made of the strict refereeing in the IPF. As only third round attempts were shown to the viewing audience - At a contest like this, it was inevitable that there would be many failed lifts. With the live coverage by Danish T.V. also, our premier event was given a welcome "airing ".
Proposal to Congress (November 2004)
The Technical Committee is not in receipt of any more proposals than those published in earlier Newsletters this year. National Secretaries please note that the Technical Committee would appreciate proposals on behalf of your members by the end of June. Proposals will not be accepted from the floor on the day of Congress!
Author's comment: As are reminder, agenda items regarding rule changes for the 2004 IPF Congress that will be held in South Africa, shall have to be submitted by no later than June 30, 2004. Therefore, if you have a suggestion for a rule change that you wish to have discussed, please let Billy Clayton or myself know, by contacting me at: rhk@verizon.net or Clayton@blast.net
Technical Checklist
Organizers of all World IPF Meets must now complete a Technical Checklist provided by the IPF Championships Secretary Gaston Parage, return it to him, with a copy to the Chairman of the Technical Committee John Stephenson. This comprehensive document contains all of the requirements one would expect at a major championships.
Barrie Scott - Great Britain
I was deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden death of Barrie Scott, IPF Category 1 Referee and approved examiner for Great Britain. Barrie was the most gentlemanly of men and of an extremely willing disposition. He was most conscientious in his position, always informing me in advance of potential candidates. I would like to extend my personal condolences and that of the IPF Technical Committee to his family and friends. He will be sadly missed.
Authors note: For those that new Barry through the sport of powerlifting, he was a gentlemen and one of the finest referees and coaches the sport has produced. He will be sadly missed, and our sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
As always, if there are any comments or questions, please let me know.
Sincere regards,
Robert Keller
