2005 IPF NORTH AMERICAN POWERLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS
As most of you know, this is a very busy season for lifting competitions. One of the best is about to take place in sunny Miami, Florida on June 18-19, 2005. It is the 2005 IPF North American Regional Pl'ing Championships. Last year saw the meet in close by Ft.Lauderdale, and it has move this year to the J.L. Knight Center in downtown Miami. This beautiful venue, adjacent to the Hyatt hotel, is just 15 minutes from the Miami International Airport. This year there is slated to be no less than 12 countries and over 100 lifters in the competition. They include lifters from Canada, USA, Bahamas, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Trinidad & Tobago, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
The NAPF Regional Congress is set for 1pm on Friday, June17th at the Hyatt Hotel.
The IPF Technical Meeting will be at 4pm the same day.
Opening Ceremonies & Parade of Nations is scheduled for 9am, June 18th at the J.L. Knight Center.
For more info on the meet go to the web site: www.ipfworlds.com/napf
Many USA lifters are scheduled to be lifting at National meets this season; and some will be lifting at IPF World meets also. This has reduced the Alternate pool availability to select a large team. Months of work went into finding our best possible lifters, who were able to lift for the USA. We have been lucky enough to get some talented lifters to represent the USA at the NA Championships. At present the rosters consist of the following names:
MEN WOMEN
Kris Sceppe Mellisa Werner
Jim Nicholosi Tina Carder
Trey Cunningham Johnna O'Campo
Keith Scisney Deb Hairston
Brian Biekerman Codi Grubbs
Sean Di Cataldo Jenn Rey
Luke Southard Kim Walford
Don Schiffer Kim Everette
Brian Laudido Bonica Brown
Randall Harris Rochelle Hecht
The Coaching Committee has nominated the following coaches to Head up the teams: James Townsend, Greg Simmons & James Hart. Meet Director is Rob Keller. IPF NA Vice President is USAPL President Larry Maile.
TITAN SUPPORT SYSTEMS has sponsored the lifting gear for our Team; as well as the Team USA T-shirts.
Starting next year, this meet will use Men's Nationals and Women's Nationals as a qualifier for this IPF competition. First place winners at Nationals will win a slot on the OPEN Team, if they make the qualifying total. Second place finishers will be a lock on the North American Team slot. So make plans to attend your respective Nationals next year.
There are plans for a grand banquet on South Beach after the meet. For those who have been traveling to far away international meets, it will be fun to see this caliber of competition in a warm, North American country. If you can make this meet, your in for a great time all week-end. Next years IPF North Americans will be in beautiful Puerto Rico! Hope to see you all in Miami in a few weeks.
