Hello:
I am Steve Howard, one of the members of the USAPL Executive Committee. I am writing this report to tell the members of USAPL about myself and the activities I have been involved in over the past years. As you can see from the information above, lifting, officiating, administrating, and meet directing are the Powerlifting experiences that I bring to my position with the EC. I have also been involved in businesses over the last 14 years where I deal with new & existing customers on a daily basis. I compare it to applying for a new job every day.

I remember attending my first ADFPA National Governing Body (NGB) meeting in St Louis in 1996 and how impressed I was with seeing the democratic system in operation at that meeting. The things I remember most about that meeting was the vote to begin using the USOC banned substance list and the vote to expend the monies to link the national office to the Internet. I also remember how professional every one at the meeting strove to be. Of course I also remember the meeting was very long but attending that meeting motivated me to become more involved in USAPL then the ADFPA. I have attended every NGB since that meeting in St Louis and even though the subject matter may change it is always just as relevant and the members present are still showing the same dedication to the organization as always. One difference that I view as a positive is that NGB meetings have gradually gotten more to the point with less time spent on conflicts and more time spent on moving the organization forward. This trend has helped bring meetings of practical length with the record for brevity being this last NGB meeting in Killeen in 2005. Even with some tough issues on the agenda everyone stayed on point and a productive efficient meeting was the result. Since having been a member of the EC/NGB it has been my good fortune to be able to apply my experience with a great group of EC/NGB members with the quality of personnel always high just as it is right now.

Now, on to what I have been doing as an EC member. I try to apply my help to the organization in my geographic area by assisting meet directors whenever I can. I own enough equipment to support a national championship and have the means to transport the equipment significant distances. I try to contribute nationwide by helping meet directors with set up, administration, officiating or equipment. This "work-side" of Powerlifting has taken me to 27 cities in 16 states as of this date. Having been appointed to the coaching committee this last year I have begun research on other coaching programs that are in existence. The first program I am working with is the USA weightlifting program at the Olympic-training center in Colorado Springs, Co. I have completed two coaching courses one at the Olympic Training Center (OTC) in Colorado Springs and one in Denver, Co conducted by staff from the OTC. It is my hope that knowledge of these programs will help my input into the development of a coaching program for USAPowerliftng. I also hope to establish contacts with the sports organizations located in Colorado Springs to promote awareness of the sport of Powerlifting in that community. Another activity I have become involved with along with USAPL Colorado is the establishment of USAPL Colorado as an in-state non-profit entity. This classification may help lay the groundwork for funding from philanthropic organizations in Colorado that help to support sport governing bodies that locate their national offices in Colorado Springs. With USAPowerlifting being part of the movement to include Powerlifting in the Olympics I view a presence by our organization in the Colorado Springs area as a positive move. Finally, I would like to close by encouraging everyone to try to be as involved with USAPowerlifting as you can. We are all part of a small sport that runs totally on good will. If it was not for all the volunteers we have today USAPowerlifting as we know it would grind to a halt so if you are not already involved get involved and start pulling together with the great group that's already doing a great job.

Thanks to all for your past & future support,

Steve Howard
